Fights have dispersed and the situation calmed. All the camps outside the ‘White House’, an area outside by the lighthouse where many people sleep, have now been totally demolished by the police – finishing off what the clashes had started. The council, with a helping hand from the police, have used the situation as justification for totally destroying and clearing the camps and belongings of all people sleeping in the area whether they had been involved in the fights or not.
They have also used it as justification to for extra controls on the Salam food distibution – stop and searching every person entering for every meal. No bags allowed. People must give their nationality. Any ‘disrespectful’ behaviour toward the police results in people being refused entry.
